Movie Box Office Top 10 – Mon Apr 21, 2008

Here is Filmzee’s top 10 list for this past weekend’s box office receipts. I’ve taken over these duties from Jon and Astin Roth, and I’ve added a short audio podcast version. (You can start the player directly below to hear this episode. Also, all episodes of the podcast will appear in the SplashCast Player at the top of the sidebar, with the most recent episode presented first.)

  1. [-] The Forbidden Kingdom. Jackie Chan, Jet Li.
  2. [-] Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Paul Rudd, Bill Hader.
  3. [1] Prom Night. Brittany Snow.
  4. [-] 88 Minutes. Al Pacino, Alicia Witt, Benjamin McKenzie.
  5. [4] Nim’s Island. Jodie Foster, Gerard Butler, Abigail Breslin.
  6. [3] 21. Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Spacey.
  7. [2] Street Kings. Keanu Reeves, Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie.
  8. [6] Horton Hears a Who! Jim Carrey, Steve Carell.
  9. [5] Leatherheads. George Clooney, Renée Zellweger, John Krasinski.
  10. [-] Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Jason Collett, Ben Stein.

I’m surprised about Expelled. It wasn’t listed in new releases, and I saw very little about it in traditional media (newspapers, TV) about it. Interesting that it hit the top 10 this past weekend, on its initial release.

Of the limited-release movies that opened this weekend, only Pathology didn’t make the top 10. It opened in 46 theaters, reaching #52 in box office receipts. The Life Before Her Eyes, starring Uma Thurman, only opened in eight theaters and reached #67. Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden opened in 102 theaters and reached #36.

Of the older movies, The Ruins has surprisingly dropped out of the Top 10, moving down to #13, despite the fact that it’s actually the best horror/ thriller movie released this year to date.
