Movie Box Office Top 10 – Mon Apr 07, 2008

Of the four wide-release movies that opened this past weekend, three made it into the top 5 of box office receipts, as I expected. Only the Rolling Stones documentary, Shine a Light, did not make the top 10. None of the limited-release movies made it into the top 10 either. None of the new releases were able to dislodge 21 from its #1 spot. Most of the older releases inched done a bit.

4. [2] Horton Hears a Who! Jim Carrey, Steve Carell.
5. [-] The Ruins. Shawn Ashmore, Jena Malone, Jonathan Tucker.
6. [3] Superhero Movie. Leslie Neilsen, Drake Bell, Sara Paxton.
7. [4] Meet the Browns. Tyler Perry, Angela Bassett, Tamela J. Mann.
8. [5] Drillbit Taylor. Owen Wilson, Josh Peck, Alex Frost.
9. [6] Shutter. Joshua Jackson, Rachel Taylor, James Kyson Lee.
10. [7] 10,000 B.C. Camilla Belle, Steven Strait.

I only managed to catch two movies, The Ruins and Superhero Movie. The Ruins is an excellent horror thriller (review coming) worth seeing soon. Of the handful of horrors released this year – all of which I’ve seen – this is the only one really worth seeing (4.5 out of 5). Superhero Movie is funny but not consistently so. Unless you have some outstanding need to go now, wait for the DVD or for pay per view.
