Read Write Web has an indepth review of some of the choices you have for desktop Internet TV solutions and web-based video viewing. Also included is a bit of coverage of set-top boxes, including the Apple iTV.
The biggest drawback of using the websites of TV broadcasters or stations is that they are controlling viewing by region based on your computer’s IP address. Desktop solutions such as Joost and Babelgum don’t do this, but they also don’t generally have any American TV content. As far as I’ve seen anyway. But they are starting to add movies. Although I don’t think I’ll be watching Joost’s Nelly Furtado channel. Seriously, what idiot had this idea? Alright, maybe it’s a matter of taste, because I’d much rather listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers channel on Joost (not available in all countries).
