The festival offers seven chances to win Euros20,000 (approximately US$40,000).

Jury members include American filmmaker Spike Lee and industry experts from US, UK, The Netherlands, France, India, Italy. The festival is open to professionally-produced content that meets qualifying criteria. Submission is free but the deadline is Feb 15, 2008. Each category has its own prize, and there are seven qualifying categories:

  1. Looking for Genius
  2. Short Film
  3. Documentary
  4. Animation
  5. Social/ Environment
  6. Spot/ Advertising
  7. Music Video

The Festival itself is UK-based, but Babelgum runs a number of film festival “channels” in their downloadable Internet TV application. Showcase dates for the Encounters Short Film Festival run from Nov 21, 2007, to May 31, 2008.

Another festival on Babelgum is the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival, whose 2007 edition ended on Aug 3rd.
